Three months ago I walked into CP Scrapbooks and bought a Bo Bunny Flex Ruler. I thought it would change my life.
Two days later I went back and asked for a job application. I filled it out, trying to sound really qualified but humble at the same time. I made sure they knew I had a Cricut.
I went in for an interview, I wore a pink and white striped polo with green pants. I was so nervous I couldn't eat all day. I broke out in hives, sounded like a complete idiot, and left knowing I'd blown my chance at having my dream job.
My phone rang one Monday morning; it was the owner of CP. He said, "We were really impressed with you at your interview . . ." and I almost started crying because I knew the words to follow would be, "but we're sorry, we don't think you are right for the position." But they weren't! He said, "we'd like to offer you the job." To which I replied, "Are you serious?" He laughed and said yes. When I hung up I was screaming and jumping. I couldn't believe it.
The next day I started training.
And somewhere between then and now, there was:
Turning the alarm on and then running for the exit before we set it off.
My first pay check!
The Sweet Summer Sidewalk Sale.
New Basic Grey: Infuse.
We're sorry, but we're out of Flex Rulers.
American Crafts Wrapping Paper.
Filling orders.
Great scrapbooking ideas.
Cricut Expression.
New Basic Grey: Periphery, Mellow, Recess, and Obscure.
New Bo Bunny.
Still no Flex Rulers.
Days when no one comes in at all.
Days when I had 15 people in line
Scanning 300 sheets of paper and having very cramped fingers afterward.
A billion new items from American Crafts.
Staying late filling pre-orders following CHA.
Staff meeting.
Mean customers.
Bad days.
Great days.
A pretty pink cake that said, "Katie, we'll miss you!"
A Basic Grey Blush Collection Pack.
Some sappy pictures.
A billion memories.
The best managers and coworkers ever.
Yesterday I ate a piece of chocolate cake for breakfast, the icing said, "miss you" then I went to work at CP for the last time. "Miss you" doesn't even begin to describe.
It wasn't the Flex Ruler that changed my life.
